MGT 521 Personal Values

This author’s Williams Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory (EAI) score is most closely aligned with results (R) and least aligned with equity. As noted by the website scoring page, “The EAI refers to a series of broad characterizations representing four prominent categories of ethical philosophy. These descriptions are used to analyze some of the characteristics of your own perspective on ethics as identified by your EAI. The category should closely reflect your perspective on ethics. Of course, individual perspectives vary, and this general description may not fit you exactly” (The Williams Institute, 2008). This author agrees that the general description does not fit him exactly. Some of the perspective comments that agree are: basing the ethical perspective on the results, or consequences of actions, people need to walk the walk and show quantitative provable results of the bottom line quickly, long discussions are not necessary or appreciated. Perspective comments not agreed with are that the goal of ethics is to achieve the greatest possible good for society and conduct should be toward promoting the greatest good for the greatest number of persons. The EAI results comments on “Ethical Style” are not agreed with at all except for a desire to fix business problems that the author determines to be improved. This author is a results oriented individual and not too worried about employee equity.

Non-Aligning Values

This author is a result-based value manager and not too concerned about equity according to the Williams Institute Ethics Awareness Inventory. These values may be considered negative or destructive to a person who values equity. Illies, J and Reiter-Palmon, R (2008) note “There is not a ‘‘destructiveness’’ value that predisposes a leader to engage in destructive behavior when faced with a problem containing an ethical dilemma....
