ln this seminar we will discuss a small number of different representations of marketing from non-academic sources. We will then use some of the ideas we have begun to look at in Marketing and see how we can apply this understanding to critically analyze and debate different views of marketing.

ln this seminar we will discuss a small number of different representations of marketing from non-academic sources. We will then use some of the ideas we have begun to look at in Marketing and see how we can apply this understanding to critically analyze and debate different views of marketing.

Preparation Activity 1

“The Food Programme”

1- What is the problem or issue that the radio programme identifies and how are marketing and marketers represented in this debate?

The issue discussed in this podcast is the rising health issues in the youth and the next generations to come. Marketers are represented as selfish professionals who makes profits at the cost of others health. They use non-advertising advertising to develop cravings for their offerings and a person end up being their customer.

2- What does the program say about the motivations and priorities of marketing and marketers?

The priorities of the marketers are to generate revenues for the firms by persuading people to try their newest offerings. They get motivated because they have to offer products for which people already want. They just translate their wants into needs and make customers eager enough to pay for it habitually.

3- Do you agree with the argument in the programme? Does it make you feel more or less happy about a future career in marketing?

The arguments are very much realistic and it’s a fact that conditioning does play its role in making a decision. Making...
