Kind Kennels is a dog day care that provides the working person a place to drop off their dogs in a safe and reliable place while they are at work. This business will give people a place to drop off their dogs so they can have other animals to play with and not be locked up in a kennel all day. In 2011 36.5% of the households owed a dog, this means there are 69,926,000 dogs living in households (Pet Industry). How many of these dogs are left at home locked in a kennel while the potential clients are at work for 8 to 10 hours?

Kind Kennels would be considered as monopolistic competition as there are several dog day care providers and to enter into the business it does not take a huge amount of beginning capital. A business plan will help develop a roadmap on the decisions on how to run the business and set goals for the future. The owner will also need to figure out the cost associated with starting the business. This can include the business license, rental, employee, pet food, utilities, and items to set up the business (How to Start A Dog Day Care Franchise).

The elasticity of a dog day care can depend on the price offered by other competitors and the number of clients the company has. The pricing of the competitors can help determine what the company is going to charge. If the company charges more than the competitors do this could push clients away from Kind Kennel this reducing the amount of income that could be produced. In 2012 the U.S. spent $53.33 billion on pets and out of that $4.16 billion was spent on grooming and boarding alone. In 2013 it is estimated that $4.54 billion will be spent on grooming and boarding alone (US Pet Ownership Statistics). With this amount of money spent yearly on pets a well thought out plan on location and marketing will establish a service where the elasticity can be reduced to a minimum.
