2. Why MBA

I want to earn an MBA as it will assist me in my current position and in achieving my long term goal of becoming a Chief Executive Officer of a multinational technology firm.

I am Vice President of SAP Practice Operations that comprises of 30% of the company’s $20 million business. I lead global teams of programmers and consultants as well as develop new business strategies and global expansion for my company. My decisions, therefore, have a significant impact on the company’s long term growth. As the future expansion plans of the company are being formalized, I foresee my responsibilities to be extended further. An MBA program will provide me formal business training in organizational leadership and corporate strategies thereby improving my effectiveness and contribution to my company. This thought led me to concretize my decision to do an MBA.

My company plans to grow organically and also via mergers and acquisitions (M&A). It has already been through one acquisition, two mergers and one demerger agreement in the past two years.

I was involved in identifying synergies between the companies in terms of technologies and resources as well as contributing toward aligning the businesses together. The limited knowledge in the other areas of M&A such as risk assessment and finance restricted my further contribution to the process. This limitation increased my desire to acquire the knowledge about M&A processes. Thus, I want to do an MBA to acquire the understanding of company valuations, financial statement analysis and the effect of an acquisition on the balance sheet and long term strategies of companies. This will enable me to contribute in the next potential acquisition activity and will be a classic opportunity to apply the knowledge gained in the classroom to real time business scenario. I believe an Executive MBA from Olin will assist me with my current work responsibilities and will be beneficial for my personal growth in the company....
