 Define organizational psychology

Organizational psychology is a branch of psychology that integrates psychological principles to work organizations. Organizational psychology is also referred to as industrial psychology. It is the systematic and scientific study of human behavior in organizations and their respective work places. It focuses on increasing organization’s productivity and issues related with the physical uprightness and mental well being of employees in an organization. This field of psychology also puts in mind group, individual or organizational behavior and integrates it in solving problems in the workplace (Kendra Cherry, n.d.). The ultimate aim of this field of organizational psychology is to study and understand the human behavior in the work settings of which they are part of.

Organizational psychology can be said to have two major sides, the industrial side and the organizational side. The industrial side focuses on looking how best to match individuals to specific job fields. It is also referred to as personnel psychology. On the other hand, organizational side of organizational psychology aims on understanding how work places or organizations affect human behavior and more specific the individual behavior. People’s behavior within an organization can be influenced by several factors which include role expectations, social norms, and organization’s management styles among others.

Role of research and statistics in organizational psychology

Research and statistics play a great role in organizational psychology. They are a key component and can be used to analyze and determine any data in organizational psychology so that the psychologists can find out what things or issues come about in the real life.
