INTRODUCTION: There is a water crisis today. But the crisis is not about having too little water to satisfy our needs. It is a crisis of managing water so badly the billions of people and environment suffers badly.in the face of scarcity of water there is a need for every user to think about possible solution to cope with the crisis

SOURCSES OF FRESH WATER: Fresh water is naturally occurring water on the earth`s surface in ice sheets, ice caps , glaciers , icebergs , bogs , ponds, lakes, rivers, streams and groundwater in aquifers and underground streams. Fresh water is generally characterized by having low concentrations of dissolved salts and other total dissolved solids. It is generally known as sweet water. But much surface fresh water and some ground water are unsuitable for drinking without some form of purification because of the presence of chemical and biological contaminants.

CRISIS OF FRESH DRINKING WATER: Water scarcity is the lack of sufficient available water resources to meet the demands of water usage within a region. It already effects every continent and more than 1.2 billion people lack access to clean drinking water.

Bangladesh is in the economic water scarcity side which means it has enough resource of water but lacks proper investment and infrastructure to utilize it.

The demand for water in DHAKA city is 2.4 billion litres but the city can supply about 2.1 bn litres according to Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA). So in DHAKA supply demand gap is huge and is increasing day by day.

RAIN WATER PRESERVATION: Rainwater is an important water source in many areas with significant rainfall like Bangladesh. Rainwater preservation and its utilization could be an environmentally sound solution. Rainwater harvesting or preservation can be very much useful system for remote areas where modern facilities are not available. Rain water harvesting could supply more than 15% of water Dhaka city requires.
