THE SEVEN ORGANIZATION APPROACHES TO STUDYING HEALTH CARE

Aletha J. Ratcliff

University of Phoenix

The seven organization approaches to studying the human body are body planes and body directions, body cavities, quadrants and regions, anatomy and physiology, microscopic and macroscopic, body systems, and medical specialties.

Body planes and body directions divides the body with planes. Planes are imaginary flat surface that divides the body into two parts. Body directions represent movement away from or towards these planes. The vertical plane that divides the body into front and back sections are called coronal plane or frontal plane. The human body can be studied according to its cavities and their internal organs. A body cavity is defined as a hollow space surrounded by bones or muscles that support and protect the organs and structures within the cavity. There are five body cavities; cranial cavity, spinal cavity, thoracic cavity, abdominal cavity, and pelvic cavity. The anterior surface to the abdominopelvic area can be divided into four quadrants or nine regions. The four quadrants include the left upper quadrant, right upper quadrant, left lower quadrant, and right lower quadrant. The nine regions include the right and left hypochondriac regions, the epigastric regions, the right and lumbar regions, the umbilical region, the right and left inguinal or iliac regions, and the hypogastric region. Anatomy is the study of the structures of the human body. Physiology is the study of the functions of those structures. Microscopic things can only be seen under a microscope. Macroscopic things can be seen with a naked eye. Body systems are various structures and how they function together. Some of the body systems are respiratory system, urinary system, eyes, nervous system, muscular systems, and blood just to name a few. Medical specialties make up the practice of medicine. Each medical specialty includes the anatomy, physiology, disease and conditions,...
