My personal preferred ethical lens is the rights and responsibility lens. According to the Ethics Game Company, this means that I use my reasoning skills to determine my duties as well as the universal rules that each person should follow. I believe that I was well placed within this lens inventory, as I have been known to try to push my own thoughts and methods onto others. I do not necessarily push that my way is the “correct and only way” to do things, but because I also put a lot of thought into why I do things I definitely push my way as a “pretty good way” and may strongly encourage its use. For me, when a particular problem or just a new job arises that I am unfamiliar with, I tend to spend nearly as much time figuring out how to come to a solution as I do actually solving the problem. I will sit and analyze every possible route and try to see the benefits and consequences of each action. While looking at my options I try to figure out not only what is the best way to do things efficiently but also ethically. My ultimate decision for a course of action comes down to determining what is the best way for me to complete my duties to the best of my ability. In the Army, this lens proves itself quite beneficial but can occasionally have its down sides as well. My meticulousness in all tasks leads me to often excel in my duties as a Soldier. Another strength is that I often do come up with a quality product or course of action for certain tasks that I then share with others so they too may be able to complete similar tasks with ease. However, some can see my precision as being over-cautious and spending too much time on particular tasks and can see my pushing to use my “product” as being bossy or feeling like my way is the only way. Because I put so much emphasis on completing my duties, I value my ability restrain from leisure activities when they could interfere with my job.
