In this business example Company Q has shown to be socially irresponsible and unethical. In order for business Q to be successful and have a positive impact on the local community they must practice a more professional code of business ethics. Company Q has several stores in the metropolitan area and decided to close a couple of the stores in the higher crime areas because of lost profits. They have begun to carry a limited amount of health-conscience items, but they are priced at high margin profit. They also have refused to give day old food to the local community because of fears of fraud. Company Q has made three un-ethical decisions and the way Company Q runs the business is a great example of being socially irresponsible, I want to show in this essay how Company Q is running an un-ethical business, and I will give solutions to solve them. 

The 1st mistake was the closing of stores in higher crime rate areas that have not shown to be as profitable as the others. Company Q has decided to close stores in order to survive, when they could have tried to find a solution to keep them open. A great solution to the lost and decreased profit in a higher crime rate area would be to hire or increase security in order to keep items from being shop lifted and lower the theft rate. Having security at the store would have also helped make it safe for the general public that shop’s at the store.

Company Q has had customers request health-conscience food for years. When company Q finally carries health-conscience and organic foods, they carry very limited amounts. Also they carry high profit margin health items so that company Q can benefit from it financially. If company Q wanted to be socially responsible and ethical to the demand of more health-conscience and organic foods they would have had to find a way to carry the supply that customers wanted. Company Q has to find a way to manage food items so they don’t expire as they have had so they didn’t lose so much...
