TED Talks

The TED Talk that I watched was titled, “Leather and Meat without Killing Animals,” by Andras Forgacs. Andras Forgacs started a company with his father to grow human body parts and organs in a lab. In his speech he talks about how he can use the same technology that he uses to grow human body parts and organs, to grow animal leather and meat. He states that with the growing population of the world, we are running out of space to raise animals for the purposes of food and products. He also mentions that the current process of harvesting animals can be seen as cruel and tortuous, but that this new process will not harm any animals while still providing us with animal byproducts. He goes through the process of growing the cells that will form the leather into any shape they want in order to minimize waste. I thought the content of this talk was very interesting. He does a great job of explaining what he wants to do and how it can benefit the masses. Something I didn’t like about his content was that he mentions growing meat, but then doesn’t go into the same amount of detail that he does for the leather. His delivery during this talk was very good. He was looking all around the room, making eye contact with many people and he uses very appropriate hand gestures. His tone was very conversational and informative. Overall I think he did a really good job presenting his idea on this TED Talk.
