The client and I are getting to know one another and it has come time to discuss the Psychologist- Client Agreement. The Health Insurance Portability Act (HIPAA), a federal law that provides new privacy protections and new patient rights with regard to the use and disclosure of your Protected Health Information (PHI) used for the purpose of treatment , payment, and health care operations ( McGarry, 2015). It is a requirement by HIPAA that the psychologist give you a Notice of Privacy that will be used and disclosure of PHI for treatment, payment, and health care operations.

There are some situations where I may have to share information about you (client) and these times would be consultation with other professionals that work in this office, administrative staff in the following ways scheduling and billing. Anyone in this office has been through tanning for protecting your privacy and has agreed not to talk to anyone about the information in this office also there are people that I have contracts with in the accounting and technician for the computers that this office must have according to HIPAA. If I determine that a client presents a serious danger of violence to another, I may be required to take protective actions. These actions may include notifying the potential victim, and/or contacting the police, and/or seeking hospitalization for the client (McGarry, 2015).
