Pride in the Workplace

For the current example of pride in the workplace I am going to use a personal example because I could not seem to find an article detailing an event that happened to someone as a result of pride in the workplace. I think that pride can lead to some form of bullying. This is unfortunate because, as adults, we should be able to go to work without going to a hostile work environment. I have a colleague at work that goes above and beyond what he should have to just to try and make his company better. He is hindered at almost every turn by his manager. The manager does not listen to a thing that he says past his basic job duties. The reason that I relate this to bullying is that the manager will purposefully exclude this person from discussions about the thing that they are working on. Sometimes they will even take credit for their work. This makes my colleague feel unwanted and irrelevant. The exclusion of people from activities, in my mind, is bullying. This affects my colleague in such a way that they are going to be looking for another job even though they actually do like what they are doing. I found an article online that agrees with this assessment. They state that:

Pride in the workplace is not all bad. Most employees or professionals need to be able to take pride in the work that they do in order to feel like they accomplished something. In regards to my examples above, my colleague truly takes positive pride in the work that they do. They take ownership of all that they do, even the mistakes and I think that this sort of pride is something that you should not be ashamed of.
