I have decided to choose the Human Resource component recruiting and retention. I chose this component because this component is a crucial building step to a company becoming successful. Knowing the correct way to recruit employees and the best way to retain them can help make or break a company. Getting good, solid employees in the door and keeping them there is a goal of every human resource department. Recruiting and retaining is a crucial part of the human resource strategy.

Recruiting is more than just hanging up a pamphlet or holding a job fair. Recruiting is ”The process of finding and hiring the best-qualified candidate (from within or outside of an organization) for a job opening, in a timely and cost effective manner” (Business Dictionary, 2015). The key phrase “best qualified candidate.” This is not an easy feat. When companies are in need of employees, sometimes they are more interested in getting bodies in the door and lose focus on how much that will cost in the long run.

The recruiting process is a strategy. If you don’t have the right strategy for recruiting, a company may have a revolving door of employees. This is a big concern especially when companies focus their attentions to recruiting in one area. An example of this would be social media recruiting. When a company relies on social media they tend to draw the same type of audience to them. There is also an array of legal disputes regarding social media and human resources as some state it is a violation of civil rights. Some claim “it uncovers protected class information that disqualify some candidates from employment” (HR Focus, 2014). Others feel it is a violation as not everyone can access social media therefore their recruitment strategy is only geared towards a class of individuals.
