Why Have Network Monitoring?

Riordan Manufacturing is a robust company that relies heavily on its network for utilizing the three “C’s” in the e-business world—collaboration, communication, and commerce. Riordan is expanding in size and complexity which means that its network is also expanding.

The network not only interconnects the company’s devices it is the company.

With the network being the most valuable resource, ensuring its availability and integrity is essential. There are challenging threats that can lead to decreased credibility, profitability and result in devastating unproductive downtime. Some of these real threats can come in the form of viruses, hackers, information theft, and denial of service attacks. In addition to these threats, the network is constantly expanding and adding newer technologies such as wireless technology and virtualization. For these reasons alone, network management is critical for Riordan Manufacturing.

The Riordan IT team is a group of experienced and capable administrators, but they rely on the information that is made visible to them to maintain the network. They will need to know the status of the network at all times, including real-time and historical information. Network monitoring will be implemented due to the following reasons:

* Keeps IT informed of the connectivity and integrity of devices and resources

* Data will allow time to upgrade or change a device before it fails on network

* Diagnose and troubleshoot problems more efficiently and quickly

* Graphical reports can be produces to explain health of network to management

* Backup and disaster recovery systems can be implemented before it’s too late

* Make sure security software and hardware is operating properly

* Ensuring customers can access applications such as HTTP, FTP, mail servers
