Communications Plan

In order for the classroom to be successful, there has to be open communication between the school and the home of the student that is being taught. There are several methods by which communication between those two entities can be accomplished. What seems to be the most sought after form of communication is what transpires between the teacher and the parent relative to the student and their success or failure. Parents want to know what is going on with their student(s) and they want to know in a timely manner. Teachers want to tell parents how the student is progressing (or not) in a manner that does not take away from valuable instruction time. A class web site is very valuable to the teacher, the parent, and the student. In addition to a class web site, alternative methods of communication can prove to be very valuable. Email and partnerships with other schools are examples of alternative methods of communication. Another very important topic that needs to be addressed when speaking of using technology to communicate between home and school is safety. This essay will discuss how I, as a first year teacher, will communicate with all engaged groups in the educational community.

First and foremost, when opting to use technology as a form of communication, safety must be held at a high standard. There will be rules established that will help protect students from any harm that will come from using most methods of technology for the sake of communicating (Olmstead, 2013). The teacher is responsible for putting the safety rules in place. The school should already have guidelines in place that will ensure the safety of the student as well as the safety of the school. Some of the safety measures will include having internet filtering, which will not allow access to material that can be deemed harmful or unsafe for the teacher, the parents, and the student.
