Diversity
When thinking about diversity in a workplace then my first assocciation is having employees with different religious backgrounds at the same organization. Balta ( 2015) , whos is senior director of Multicultural Contect, has pointed out in his article that diversity is usually defined with what is easily visible e.g. race, age, gender, but diversity also consists of elements that are not automatically identifable such as sexual orientation or religious faith.
In Estonia we don´t have a large porpotion of different religions and therefore it hasn´t crossed my mind a lot how organizations should adjust to having employees with different religious backgrounds. Also I can´t remember seeing any articles through media channels considering this area of dirveristy. This gives me an reason to think that in Estonia it is something that organizations are not facing on a regular basis. In contrast to this area of diversity the gender diversity is an area that is often disuscussed. It is mainly due to fact that we have high salary difference between men and women . According to Estonian statistical office (2015) in 2014 there was a 20,3% difference between the expected salary, and with the overall salary difference we are on the top of the list among all European countries.
When thinking on a larger scale then I believe that having people with different religious views at the same workplace is something that can´t and shouldn´t be avoided.
