Abstract

Today, more and more companies and organizations follow the modern tendency of using creative tools (such as brainstorming, brainwriting, morphological box, etc.) and idea selection tools, for example, prioritization matrices, nominal group technique and Stuart Pugh’s New Consept Selection to solve relevant problems. These techniques are usually implemented in groups because teamwork helps attain more significant, thorough, and quick results. Teamwork is especially necessary when it comes to organization’s problem solving activities, because most of organization’s problems concern all levels of its structure and demand participation of different employees to solve these problems. Accumulated unique knowledge and experience of each team member allow more quickly generate innovative ideas and stimulate mental processes of other members. However, there is a widely spread difficulty to organize an efficient problem solving negotiation among members of team. The success of a problem solving negotiation depends on how well a team involved in this negotiation is performing.

This paper presents possible reasons of unsuccessful and inefficient decision-making in problem solving negotiation. It also discusses the methods, techniques, and rules which allow forming a high-functioning team and leading an effective problem solving discussion.
