Business Culture

The organizational ethics in China are based on the principle of unity in the group because they are a collective nation. This concept is based on mutual obligations. Employees must be loyal to the leader and the leader must care for the well-being of the employees. This approach can have a positive outcome which comes from loyalty and devotion to the group, but it can also have a negative outcome which comes from fear of group failure and creativity hindrance. This principle allows the organizations in China to create a flexible and power concentrated culture that is very effective (Kwintessential, n.d., para.8).

In China, the standard number of hours people work is about 40 hours per week, 8 hours per day and 5 days a week. According to the 1994 Labour Law of China, overtime must be paid for any work surpassing standard working hours and that overtime shall not exceed three hours a day or 36 hours per month (China Labour Bulletin, 2016, para. 3). The legal working age in China is 16, where young people can work in restaurants, factories and other (China.org, n.d., para. 25).

In Canada, the standard number of hours people work is about 48 hours per week, 8-9 hours per day and 5 or 6 days a week (Ministry of Labour, April 1, 2014). According to Statistics Canada (2015), young people can begin to work at the age of 15, where they can work in various place, such as grocery stores, restaurant and other (para. 19). Overtime in Canada is considered any hours worked in excess of the standard hours specified in the Code or Regulations, in most cases 8 in a day or 40 in a week and the overtime rate is a minimum of one and one-half times the regular rate of wages (Government of Canada, 2015, para. 7).
