While homosexuality is by no means a new issue, there is a lot of debate on whether or
not it is a choice, or if there is some genetic background that causes people to identify this way.
Several studies have been performed to determine whether or not homosexuality is passed
through genetics, and while there is strong belief that it is, there is no completely solid answer.
At the same time, however, there are many people who believe just the contrary; that people who
identify as homosexual make that choice, and that they can be changed, or fixed. This
controversy leads to varying levels of acceptance towards people who identify as homosexual, as
many of those who believe that homosexuality is a choice, these people are often of the Christian
faith, Westboro Baptist for example, believe that it is sinful in nature, and that homosexuality is a
lifestyle choice to be abhorred. In many cases, including a most recent example in some of the
southern states, including Mississippi and South Carolina, many homosexual people are being
refused the same treatment in public areas as heterosexual individuals, because the owners of
these shops do not agree with the lifestyle ‘choices’ that the LGBT+ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgender, etc.) community makes.
Those who believe that homosexuality is not a choice that people make during their
lifetimes, but rather, that it is something decided by the genetic makeup of the people in question
are more generally those people who invest their lives in scientific studies, instead of theological
studies. Several studies have been performed to prove the existence of a ‘gaygene’ and although
there is no completely solid fact of the matter, there have been proven to be several differences. ...
