Short Answer Questions

Create-A-Diet

This activity demonstrates how to select a healthful food regime. Go to www.nhlbi.nih.gov/cgi-bin/chd/diet.cgi to begin the activity. Select foods from a variety of choices and then review a report on how closely you were able to match your intake goals for saturated fat, cholesterol, sodium, and calories.

After analyzing the nutritional value of your typical daily diet, describe the areas in which you need improvement by answering the questions below.

1. Is your fat intake too high?

Definitely my fat intake is too high, after I took the test Create-A-Diet which is based on my body type and general light activities, I should select a daily diet of no more than 1500 calories, 10g of saturated fat, 200mg of cholesterol, total fat of 50g and no more than 2400mg of sodium. I really cannot estimate my daily fat intake, but certainly is very much higher than the amount I should take.

2. Is your overall calorie intake too high or too low?

My overall calorie intake is too high; again, my daily calories consumed are higher than the estimated in the test.

3. What are the steps you might take to improve your diet?

I realize that my food selections are less healthy than they should. To be honest to myself I need a drastic modification on my food habits, not only related to food selections and sizes, more physical activities and set up realistic goals. I need to work on motivations that are the key to reach my goals.
