Goals of Nutritional Education

The purpose of this paper is to explore different methods of nutrition that will be educated and incorporated into and outside the classroom. I will introduce a sample lunch and a snack menu as well as strategies to inform and engage families of the nutritional program in children at home and in school.

Food choices are influenced by different factors such as cultural background, current culture, age, gender, family, and financial aspects of a family. The main purpose of food is to nourish the body; food means far more than that to many people. Consumption of a healthy diet by young children is essential to provide for normal growth and development and to prevent a variety of nutrition-related health problems such as anemia, obesity dental caries, cognitive achievement and chronic diseases later in life (unknown author, 1995).

Nutritional Goals & Educating Parents

The goal is to create a positive attitude toward food by encouraging acceptance of a variety of healthful foods, and in order to do so you have to promote an understanding of the relationship between food and health. As a Preschool Teacher, you have to develop goals that will provide proper nutrition such as the basic nutritional needs of children, which include protein, grain, and fruit and vegetable sources.

With a good understanding of the requirements for children’s menus and knowledge of nutritional wellness goals, teachers are ready to gather tools they need to begin to make decisions about the menu (Sorte, Daeschel & Amador, 2011). As a Preschool Teacher, you are not able to conquer the nutritional goals by yourself so you need to get parents evolved. When families are a part of a menu planning partnership they are empowered with the knowledge they need to make nutritious food choices at home that support good health for the entire family (Sorte, Daeschel & Amador, 2011).
