Club IT, Part One

Ruben Keys and Lisa Tejada have followed their dream and created a downtown hotspot called Club IT. However, while continuing to develop their business, they have a found a few flaws in the IT department for their club. They have mutually decided to hire an intern to help develop this area to enhance and build upon their successful business. Club IT promotes a fun and energy filled environment, filled with a variety of live music, food, and drink. Ruben and Lisa have a created an atmosphere in hopes to attract a varied crowd and become an integral part of the community. This paper will discuss a competitive advantage that Club IT can utilize to compete in their chosen market.

Ruben and Lisa have already proven they can run a successful business. They have recently updated their club; they provide great music, with live bands and a live DJ. The club itself makes a small profit; the question is how do they expand their market to make a greater profit?

With the operational effectiveness strategy Ruben and Lisa can improve their internal business strategies so that their club can perform its current activities better than its many rivals. These improvements will not only help in increasing quality and productivity, but also with employee and customer satisfaction while in turn decreasing time to market (Rainer & Turban, 2008).

In order to achieve operational effectiveness Ruben and Lisa need the following information to guide them. The first part of the cycle to operational effectiveness is Club IT’s ability to lead and control functional performance. The functions of the business include sales, logistics, production, and R&D. These functions support the production of Club IT’s outputs and are specialized in order to converge expertise. With greater expertise, the greater Club IT’s effectiveness will be, specifically when the expertise distinguishes the business from the competition.
