RELIGIONS OF INDIA

RELIGION OF THE PRE HISTORIC PEOPLE:

The ruins of the object of Mohenjo-Daro tells us great deal about the faiths and beliefs of the people of the PRE HISTORIC PERIOD. Many figurines ( a small ornamental model of a person)of Mother Goddesses that have come to light make us believe that the cult of Divine Mother was widely prevalent. This cult was more or less similar to the SHAKTI worship later days. The fundamental idea behind this belief was that the people of that region believed THAT FEMALE ENERGY WAS THE MAIN SOURCE OF CREATION.

On the basis of one particular seal the scholars believe that the people of Mohenjo-Daro also faith in MALE GOD who was prototype of the God Shiva. The seal further reveals THE Yoga posture of the God , being surrounded by animals . His THREE FACED figure with two horns further establishes Shiva’s form with THREE EYSE and a trident. This kind of figure connect SHIVA with the conception of MAHAYOGI, PASHUPATI,TRINETRA AND TRISHULDHARI. Some of the stone pieces discovered from the site , identify SHIVALINGA, the most popular form of SHIVA.

In addition to the worship of SHIVA and SHAKTTI the people of that period also believed in primitive religious faith in the worship of stones, sacred trees, animals as abodes ( abode is the place where one lives)of spirits ( the human spirit is virtually indestructible). This is something like animism.

The study of these aspects of religious beliefs leads one to the conclusion that modern Hinduism has some kind of relationship with the ancient faith of the INDUS VALLEY as far as worships of SHIVA, SHAKTI, NAGS ( to do something which you have not done yet), and YAKSHAS.

THE VEDIC RELIGION AND HINDUISM:

With the Aryans the primitive religion of old evolved in the form of VEDIC religion –a belief in...
