Wal-Mart Business Ethics

Abstact

Wal-Mart constantly makes efforts to promote company's ethical culture to all stakeholders globally. The company has a statement of ethics which serves as a guide for all associates to make ethical decisions every day.

Governance: Wal-Mart's corporate governance has been, since early years of its inception, focused on enhancing the oversight of its leadership and facilitating management development. The board is committed to corporate governance processes that ensure a balance between proper oversight and the appropriate level of control. These processes are continuously reviewed and company's culture is reflected in this corporate governance structure.

Transparency: The fact that there is an increased desire among consumers to know about the product's entire lifecycle, Wal-Mart has developed a sustainability index. Through this practice, the company is creating a more transparent supply chain, accelerating the adoption of best practices and providing consumers with the information they need.

Business Relationships: Since Wal-Mart is a low cost provider of products, the company maintains tight negotiations with suppliers. Due to sheer volume of products Wal-Mart purchases, suppliers have no choice but to accept whatever terms and conditions are laid down by the retailer. Hence, Wal-Mart keeps an upper hand on its business relationships with suppliers, distributors, and partners agreeing to what has been decided by the company.

Financial Return: Wal-Mart believes in sharing return on investment with investors because it helps investors access how effectively Wal-Mart is employing its assets. The company provides a good return on investment to investors by adopting strategy to balance growth with improved ROI through a more focused store growth program, increased customer relevance, and moderate capital investment plan.
