Visit to AAHK

On 17 February 2012, students who studied IMSE2026 – Engineers in Society had visited to the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) for recognizing an example of public consultation with reference to the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) Master Plan 2030.

They gathered at the road between main building and the library at 8:55am. Two coaches were booked for picking up the IMSE2026 students. After arrived the Hong Kong International Airport, there was a talk provided by AAHK. The speakers were Mr. Kevin Poole and Mr. Martin Putnam who were the Deputy Director (Projects) and Manager (Environmental) of AAHK respectively.

Firstly, Mr. Kevin Poole introduced the background of HKIA. Mr. Poole said HKIA was opened in 1998 and had grown to be one of the finest and busiest airports in the world. 28.6 million and 1.6 million tonnes of cargo with 450 air traffic movements (ATMs) per day to about 120 destinations were handled by HKIA. Now, services between Hong Kong and about 160 destinations worldwide are provided by over 95 airlines which operate more than 850 ATMs per day. HKIA voted best airport about 50 times, including “Asian Airport Efficiency Excellence”, “Best Airport”, “World’s Best Airport” and so on. HKIA.
