Computer Information System Brief

Kudler Fine Foods is a specialty food store located in the metropolitan area of San Diego. There are three different locations. The stores are located in Del Mar, La Jolla, and Encinitas. All three of the locations are growing, which is causing an increase in supply and demand. A growing company means requires a need to evaluate the current system and determine what is working and what is not working. Any changes that are discussed need to provide the business with the greatest opportunity to run smoothly and continue to grow.

There are many key business and accounting information needs associated with the Kudler Fine Foods business. The first area of needs is the accounting area. The accounting area is responsible for such things as payroll, purchasing, inventory, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and security. The next area of needs is in the inventory system. Keeping track of all items in inventory is an important task that helps keep costs down. The inventory system will need to be evaluated on continual bases and managed effectively. The last area of need is the overall flow of the business. How is the business being advertised, marketed, and maintained. Does the company have a good human resource department, customer relations and is the technology up to date.

Kudler is using a Retail Enterprise Management System (REMS) and has it maintained yearly. This system is scaled to meet the needs of Kudler Fine Foods. This system has the capability to work along with the Microsoft Office system programs. The REMS requires multiple steps to complete, which is not in the best interest in time efficiency. This system has to be updated manually. It is advisable to network all three locations to allow easy access to the information for all three stores in one system.
