When changes in the work place arise, a manager has to know how to adjust to these changes. A manager must also know how to prepare his or her staff for any changes that may occur in the work place. Coping with change in the workplace can be very stressful and difficult. Changes in the workplace can also kill an individual’s motivation. In order for a manager to keep employees motivated, he or she must be able to implement methods that will maintain or even increase motivation in the workplace.

One of the biggest de motivation changes in the workplace is downsizing. Downsizing in a company occurs when the company decides to reduce the overall size. Downsizing can occur for many different reasons. The most common reason for a company to downsize is to reduce operation cost. This downsizing is done by reducing the number of employees working for the company or working in a particular area. Companies will normally downsize in the hopes for the company to make daily operations more effective. Companies that use machines for most of the production may replace employees with the use of machines.

In the event of a downsize employees can be very devastated. Some employees may be able to collect unemployment until he or she is able to find new work but there is no guarantee that the unemployment will cover his or her needs. Other employees may not have an option for unemployment. If an employee does not have the option for unemployment and cannot meet the guidelines, then he or she is left jobless. There are also employees who have been with the company for so long he or she does not know anything else. Many employees are the sole provider of their homes and have families who depend on them. No matter what the employees situation may be downsize in the company can cause a hardship for many employees.
