The article I chose to review Information Management Related to Regional Sediment Management in the Gulf of Mexico, in my opinion demonstrates the use of information systems in a clear and precise manner. The authors present the collaboration of different entities that rely on the same information system that is associated within their particular areas of expertise.

This includes the integration of technology that provides assistance for regional sediment management of the waterways and the Gulf of Mexico. The information system that is accessed is the enterprise geographic information systems (EGIS). The EGIS delivers spatial information to all the businesses concerned with the project and enhances the efficiency of the Gulf Regional Sediment Management Master Plan (GRSMMP) with the combined data.

The article reveals that the EGIS involves the hardware, software such as a database management system, data, people, and the methods that are needed to create this collaborative effort to maintain the coastal areas of the Gulf of Mexico.

The thesis of the work pertained to effective management of the Gulf of Mexico eCoastal program and the use of information systems to provide a stable, functioning method that provides those involved with a better idea of what needs to be done and helps the companies make better decisions.

The article is backed up with information that shows how the different entities make use of the information within the system. The watershed tools provide a good example of this information. These tools “require various inputs, such as land-use information; water flow; sediment transport rates and budgets” this information allows the “implementation of best management practices....
