Burger King Expands Internationally

Abstract

This paper will explore the reasons why Burger King has decided to continue to expand internationally. Burger King is currently second in the fast food chain business that sells burgers, and its main competitor is McDonalds. This paper will look at the core competencies of Burger Kings, the advantageous and disadvantageous of expanding internationally. Burger King has incorporated a strategy that has help the company succeed in Latin America. Burger King will attempt to use the same strategy to continue to expand into markets such as China and Russia. The executives of Burger King must decide on which market to tap into by analyzing both the location and the market itself. The paper will discusses Burger King strategy that will enable the company to grow with in the international market making or taking over as the number one burger chain both internationally.

Core competencies are a unique set of skills or knowledge that gives a business an advantageous over it competitors (Daniels, Radebaugh, & Sullivan, 2011). Burger King has to distinctive core a competency that has been the back bone of the company since it was founded. The first is the way it cooks its burgers. According to our text, Burger Kings flame broils all of its burgers versus frying or grilling them (Daniels, Radebaugh, & Sullivan, 2011). Secondly, the reason I go to Burger King versus other restaurants is the ability to get my burger the way I want it. Burger King second core competency is simply have it your way. These core competencies are very important when choosing the strategy the company will use to expand. Burger King must be able to separate itself from other fast food chains and local businesses. Burger King continues to create value by developing an infrastructure before expanding into an international market, establishing a local office with locals running the day to day operations and by using local suppliers...
