MY CAREER FUTURE
Career exploration and planning is a fantastic class to help answer important questions about one’s own future. After taking his class I realized that I would like to pursue a degree in economics and hopefully a MBA (masters in business administration), with the hope that one day I might become a financial advisor, assisting in investments, stock market, and bonds all while impacting everyday life. There will be many steps and obstacles to obtaining my dream career, but I feel capable and dedicated to moving forward.
Prior to taking this class I was very unsure of my future. I am a certified wedding planner and also have been working in the restaurant industry for a decade, I have recently decided to leave the business and focus on school. However I was also indecisive when it came to the direction I wanted to take as far as my education; forget knowing about a possible career choice. I had every intention of obtaining an associates degree through Dutchess and to transfer, but I had no real idea of where I would go or what I wanted to major in. I am a serious student and I want to attend the best school my grades and finances can allow. If I had unlimited funds and the grades I would love to attend Vassar College.
Throughout the semester the chapter exercises were extremely helpful. The value table for instances is a great tool to organize and recognize what truly is important to you as a person. Values are important because they are already instilled in you so once you can be aware of you can begin your journey towards a career that will represent you as well as fulfill your needs. My top five values are education, creativity, integrity, accomplishment and freedom. Therefore, whatever job I pursue I should be able to have freedom of choices, creativity, respect and recognition, this exercise gave me the knowledge I was missing to help narrow down my path and focus on what was best for me.
