Introduction

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen. I am Ivy.

In my speech I would like first to respond to the proposition definition of the topic and then second to respond to their plan.

Attack definitions

The proposition presented that we need to interact with the media for it to be engaging. No, I do not agree with the definition.

Yes, interacting with media involves actions and having some effect on each other BUT in the context of traditional media and new media, you do not need to interact with the media to be engaged.

For instance, if you are watching the Television, you are not interacting with the news person telling the news , it doesn't mean the news is useless and/or uninteresting.

Engagement is the act of sharing in the activities, therefore in this case, the news are still useful in being able to engage with other people whom you speak to, like your friends, family, colleagues, etc. But you are not interacting with the media but you are engaged in the media content which also represents the media.

On the other hand, with the technological advances, new media utilize heavy interactivity. But the question is, are you interacting with the media? According to TopRank Online Marketing , one-third of social media users do not interact, they engage on social media sites by posting status updates. Most people only browse through and absorb information on their own which implies that one does not need to interact to be engaged with the media. Thank you.
