Write a 100- to 200-word response to each of the following questions. Provide citations for all the sources you use.

• What is discrimination? How is discrimination different from prejudice and stereotyping?

Discrimination is “the unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, esp. on the grounds of race, age, or sex.” (1)

Discrimination is different from prejudice because prejudice is based on a already determined opinion not based on anything so there is no reason for it at all.

Discrimination is different from stereotyping because stereotyping is a “widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.” (2)

• What are the causes of discrimination?

The causes of discrimination are many race is the first one that comes to mind. People of different races are looked aat in a different light only because they look different then what society sees as normal for a given area. Another cause of discrimination is ones sex now this used to me male or female but over the last 10 years it has come to mean so much more it now can mean sexual preference. In society males are procived to be physically stronger and female are considered more delicate now with gay people they are highly discriminated agait because they have a different view of what a family and realationship is at least to most people in a community.

• How is discrimination faced by one identity group (race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, gender, sexual orientation, age, or disability) the same as discrimination faced by another? How are they different?

Discrimination faced by the identity group religious beliefs faces a lot of the same discrimantion that the race identity group faces. An example of this is the people with certain religious beliefs are always lumped into general catigories like chathlocis are all pro-choice.
