1. According to Maslow's hierarchy, which basic needs did Shank's old boss fail to meet? Explain why the needs have not been met. What could be done to meet these missing needs? (25 points). The basic needs which Shank’s old boss failed to meet are as follows is the need for self-actualization which refers to the desire for self-fulfillment, namely, to the tendency for him to become actualized in what he is potentially. This tendency might be phrased as the desire to become more and more what one is, to become everything that one is capable of becoming (www.about.com). For those individuals who tend to have everything can outstand their potential. They can seek abilities, harmony, artistic experiences, self-fulfillment, and unity with God, and so on. Emily Griffin from Flight 001 said “ So it’s not that it’s better than nothing, but they do still recognize the contribution, even if I’m not quite getting it right.” The statement indicates a negative view of self-actualization which is the misplaced element within the company. Emily is trying to accomplish a task to acquire acceptance and not amplifying her plausible and her eminent level of occupation. Emily should be compelled to and progress through the needs to the towerest level that is given within her company provided that they give her education for possible growth. Use the Expectancy Theory and/or the Equity Theory of motivation to elaborate on how the feeling of being under paid might affect the work of a Flight 001 associate and what a manager can do to enlarge the employee's inspiration.
