Defining the Project Scope

Defining the Project Scope

As the project manager (PM) for Trillo Apparel Company (TAC), I have been asked to review the project case and to determine the scope of the District 4 Production Warehouse Move project (Assignment 3: Defining the Project Scope, 2014). I must prepare a scope document for review and approval by the project sponsor prior to starting the project however I must explain the purpose of the project scope. The purpose of defining the project scope is to define the deliverables for the end user and to focus project plans. Without defining the project scope, many organizations run the risk of having an unsuccessful project. With a scope document, you are able to focus on the project purpose throughout the longevity of the project for the customer and project participants (Gray & Larson, 2008).

As project manager, I am responsible for seeing that there is an agreement with the owner on project objectives, deliverables at each stage of the project, technical requirements, etc. This project scope is a document that will be published and used by the project owner and project participants for planning and measuring project success by detailing what is expected to be delivered to the customers once the project is completed (Gray & Larson, 2008).
