Introduction:

An organizational structure is the outline of a company’s framework and guidelines in management. Institutions are often on a continuum of organizational structures. Each prison model explains and describes the prison’s centralized administration correctional personnel, and resourced. Management and control of individuals and staff members is a key variable in work productivity, morale, and agency efficiency.

Centralized organizational structures:

This style of model is run by 2 people who act collectively to create the culture of the system; this helps to reach the goals of the agency; making the initial decisions up to the owner. There are advantages to this model; (1) the owner is responsible for setting the mission and vision for the system, (2) the owners also set the job descriptions and goals for staffing as well as the inmates in this case. There are also disadvantages because of the several layers of bureaucracy and lack in areas of layers from the owner to the employees and other leaderships; leaving everything accountable by the owner and this can require longer process with decision making and action. (Vitez, 2015)

Decentralized Model:

This style of model is operated independently and the facility its self is responsible for the resources, programming, etc. There is a selection by the state governor of the CEO of the system and there are differences that pan out between the communities, cities, state wide and federal, so adjustments must be made. The advantages the decentralized model are; (1) that there are a varied selection of people that help with planning and helps with operations on varied times. The disadvantages can be an issue is difficult on getting people on the same page for decision making and planning. (Vitez, 2015)
