When it comes to assets and resources of different companies, people are the ones who should be valued. During the time Colombia and Guatemala experienced civil wars and conflicts, Coca-Cola was charged in 1989 for the murder of eight union staff employees from the bottling plant located in South America (Foust & Smith, 2006). They claimed that 48 union workers were supposedly forced into captivity and death terrorization totaling to 65 employees. In addition, “Byproducts of Colombia's four-decade-long civil war among leftist guerrillas, government forces, and paramilitaries, which has resulted in at least 35,000 deaths, including 2,500 trade unionists since the mid-1980s alone” (Foust & Smith, 2006). Many people believed these accusations which ending results led to ones who intimidate union personnel’s. District unions compensated those family members who were involved with these unpleasant remarks and the company and regional location were complicit with these threats and with the deaths of these unionized workers.

Coca-Cola claimed innocent against these allegations and making it obvious that the 8 staff workers death was done off the company’s premises and they kept their position of other deaths of collateral damages from Colombia’s enduring civil wars (Foust & Smith, 2006). Coca-Cola was sued by Guatemala’s staff members because victims of their families were involved in these violent matters while staff was chosen to unionize at Incasa Coca-Cola’s by the owner of the bottling plants. Staff members fault Coca-Cola of knowing of retribution that took no further action to stop this form of action. Coca-Cola had a small share at stake and persist the independence in these plants owned. When you work abroad, awareness in society is most likely the main avoidable step to obtain.
