Communication is the transfer of information between people, resulting in common understanding. Communication has been classified into various type these are interpersonal communication, intrapersonal communication, group communication and mass communication.

Interpersonal communication, this involves direct face to face between the sender and the receiver. The form of this type of communication can be both verbal and non-verbal. The number of persons involves in this type of communication is much considered. When it involves two people it is said to be dyadic and when it involves three or more persons it is called group communication. When also it involves large number of people and communication take place usually for information sharing and persuasion.

Intrapersonal communication, this the most simple form of communication which occurs for clarifying ideas or for analysing a situation. This involves activities such as internal discourse which involves analysing, concentration and contemplation. Another activity is the vocal communication which involves talking aloud to oneself and is done for clarifying or rehearsing messages. Also the one that involves making entries in journals or diaries is said to be written communication.

The other common type of communication if the group type where it takes place between three to twenty individuals. Group communication could be verbal, non-verbal, written, and electronic. All these form help groups to achieve their aims and goals.

The last type is the mass communication. This is the type that takes it form in the media such as television, radio and the internet. This type of communication has a large audience.

Non-verbal communication uses audio and video signals to communicate messages. The ringing of telephones draw attention to the owner that someone is calling him or her.
