Q.1 (a) Explain the causes of miscommunication at organisational levels.

(b) Discuss the concept of AIDA.

ANSWER: (a)

There are many causes for miscommunication at organisational levels as discussed below:(A) COMPLEXITY IN A LARGE ORGANISATION:

Large organisations normally have multiple levels of hierarchy in employee

structure vertically as well as laterally. This leads to communication gap with respect to

dispersion of information and also causes delays if communication policy of a company has

stringent protocols for internal communication.

Also, information may not be properly grasped or passed downstream or

upstream regarding the management goals and objectives as well as creates a hurdle for

management in getting feedback from Root level employees due to insecurity fears of middle

managers who retard such information as it may affect their image. Absenteeism of some

employees may also lead to miscommunication as alternate handlers may not completely

understand the situation.

Example: An amendment in business policy change communicated by the CEO of a company

regarding New approach to business may not be passed on to Junior level employees by

middle managers as they deem it unnecessary and therefore it leads to junior employees

working without zeal and involvement.

(B) DIFFERENCE IN STATUS OF EMPLOYEES / EGO ISSUES:

A Technical expert sending message to a sub ordinate may not completely define the

attributes of an operational process like precautions, advantages and disadvantages assuming

that his sub-ordinates are aware about it whereas the sub ordinate may not have such depth or

knowledge about the subject as his Technical expert.

Due to Ego issues and authoritarian mind-set , Middle manager may not provide any

decision making powers to his junior fearing that it may empower the junior employee to...
