Dear Ms. Bowman:

The Monroe Development Corporation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit agency that has taken the lead in providing the MOnroe Recreation Department along with the Memorial Library funding the development of a community garden in Moore Park, located centrally within the Village of Monroe.

I am writing to submit our grant proposal to the Community Foods Project Competitive Grant Program. The Monroe Recreation Department currently serves over 200 community youth, mainly through their summer recreation program. The program offers sports, swimming, crafts and activities as well as breakfast and lunch to the participants.

Our organization would like to assist the Recreation Department in the creation of a centrally located community garden. The addition of a garden to our community park will enhance the appearance of the park and offer the surrounding community a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables.

I believe that you will find our project fits the Community Foods Project’s focus of increasing the self-reliance of communities, providing for food needs and promoting comprehensive responses to local food access and nutrition issues.

The Development Corporation estimates the total cost of this project to be approximately $14,000. The project has already secured $7,090 in In-Kind, donations and funding, this grant request is for the remaining $7,000.
