Business Communication

Business communication involved face-to-face communication, language matter and business relationship where it entailed a constant flow of information. Communication in business is very crucial as it plays a very important role in the process of directing and controlling the people in the organization. Effective communication between superiors and subordinated in an organization, between organization and society at large (between management and trade unions) is essential to avoid any misunderstandings and to ensure there will be no communication gaps occur in any organization.

The capability to use the right language and the right body language when communicating is very vital, especially in Italy. Hand gestures and personal contacts are a trait of Italian conversations. If a person moved away or he or she keep the distance, this can be judged as antagonistic. Italian are often overseeing by their feelings and trust is very crucial in establishing a valuable business relationship.

Face-to-face Communication

Speaks simultaneously or interrupt one another during business meeting is a common trait of the Italian communication style. According to a popular joke, to stop an Italian talking just block his or her hands. They tend to gesture to stress on their speech. In introductions and departures, they will shake and always from standing position. Embraces and “kisses” are common between close friends and relatives upon meeting and leaving. They also would not hesitate to greet people they know with a warm embrace. This outgoing gestures are common among Italians but they would not expect a foreigner to do the same. Eye contact is vital as it is deemed to be sign of interest, openness and frankness. On the other hand, looking away is not proper and will be assume as negative signals.
