Human resources, or people that work within an organization (Gomez-Mejia, Balkin, & Cardy, Chapter 1, 2010), are the foundation upon which businesses are built. Without them there is no one to run the organization and we are left with only an idea of what services we want to offer. Human resource management is a vital role within any organization. Human Resource Management (HRM) is the organizational task that deals with matters related to people such as recompense, employing, organizational development, employee motivation, employee training, communication, benefits, performance management, wellness, and safety. The goal of HRM is to increase productivity within an organization by enhancing the efficacy of its employees while at the same time bettering the work life of employees. Consequently, HRM must attempt to encourage personal development, employee satisfaction, and conformity with related laws ("Reference for Business", 2011).

“Like most other service industries, the health care industry is very labor intensive. An important reason for reliance on an extensive work force is that it is not possible to produce a "service" and store it for future consumption” (Siddiqui & Kleiner, 1998, para. 1). Health care is produced and consumed at the same time. It is therefore extremely important to have an efficient HRM department that is able to effectively manage health care providers, axillary providers, line employees and staff employees. HRM must handpick suitable, qualified candidates for positions within a health care organization. Since the HRM department is also for the training of new recruits, they must also design and implement suitable training programs to ensure that all new employees are fully cognizant of their responsibilities.
