Persuasive Essay on School Uniforms

Did you know that as many as twenty-five percent of the nations pubic elementary, middle, and junior high schools have successfully implemented a school uniform policy? ( Isaacson, 1998) School uniforms greatly benefit both the students and faculty by creating an atmosphere in which the students are able to get the most out of their education. For many years parents, teachers, administrators, and students have argued over the pros, cons, and benefits of school uniform policies. School uniforms are used in many schools to provide and atmosphere of uniformity, pride, loyalty, and equality among the student population.

One of the most important things to children today is fitting in. Having the right clothes, the right shoes, the right electronics and the right friends have become more important than having the right education. Parents spend a small fortune trying to keep their school age children in style. The adoption of school uniforms could put an end to many of the problems that children encounter at school. School uniforms should be required. There has been much discussion on this subject over the last few years. While there are both advantages and drawbacks to the issue, the positives far outweigh the negatives.

The first benefit is financial. It costs a great deal of money to keep up with the latest styles and trends. With the high cost of clothing today, school uniforms can lift a financial burden from students' families. The use of school uniforms is more affordable to families because there is not as much pressure to buy expensive, trendy clothing. Uniforms are made to last, and can be washed easily and frequently. After the initial cost of buying uniforms, there is no need to spend as much money on clothing. Some people believe that uniforms cost less than trendy children's clothing.
