To the respected members of the panel of adjudicators, equally distinguished opponents, colleagues, ladies and gentlemen. Good afternoon

We in the Government Side may concur to our opponent’s motion that the university should not adopt a no wearing of prescribed student uniform policy, BUT we must be ready to accept the negative consequences that it can give.

Children take pride in expressing their individuality through dress, hairstyle and shoes. They want to choose a sweater, shirt or slacks showing the world something about who they are inside. Also, they want to wear favorite colors to express their mood whether playful or serious. Since uniforms force students to conform in dress, individuality is suppressed, which can trigger rebellion in some children.

It affects Religious Expression

For students whose attire reflects worship of God, school uniforms interfere with its expression. Under such circumstances, the student and/or the parents may feel forced to make a choice between education and their religious beliefs. Parents don't want competition between their child's education and how they worship.

It Restricts Freedom of Choice

Clothing communicates freedom to choose. A school's mandate to wear uniforms removes a student's right to choose his own attire causing him to feel restrained. In addition, this might cause some high-spirited children to rebel or engage in acting out behaviors such as talking back to teachers or bullying their classmates.

Lack of Variety

Before long, dressing in the same thing on a daily basis gets boring, which students of the new generation don’t enjoy. They want a wide range of colors and clothing styles to choose from and to wear to school. They want their friends to exclaim over what they're wearing.
