Deborah Tannen wrote, “Communication is always a matter of balancing conflicting needs for involvement and independence”. There are many factors that can affect communications such as individual characteristics, cultural dynamics, functional limitations, difference in learning and environmental conditions. However, I will highlight about communication in terms of cultures.

Based on Oxford Dictionary, culture is defined as the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively; the ideas, customs, and social behaviour of a particular people or society. Culture is a unique way of life people, their complete style of living. The advantage of culture in communication is that we can learn how to understand different people with different culture. This is very interesting as we have chance to learn , understands and appreciates a culture internally. Another dimension of culture is language. In this world, there are many types of language, for example, English, Malay, Mandarin and French. We can learn many types of languages and it will help in daily life. For instance, in Malaysia, if you can speak English and Malay it is very helpful when getting a job. Plus, be able to speak in Mandarin will be bonus for those who want to get job especially involving business. In the other hand, French is a language that is not only speak verbal, it always come with gestures. This show that the needs of involvement and independence. Top gestures is J'ai du nez, in way you tap your nose to say that you are clever or quick-thinking. Moreover, other dimension of cultural diversity is aesthetics. Aesthetics is a culture’s sense of beauty and good taste, and is expressed in arts, drama, music, dance and the like. Aesthetics are extraordinary interest to the international business executives for these govern the norms of beauty in a society and are helpful in correctly interpreting meanings of various methods of artistic expressions, colors, shapes,...
