Census and Acorn are organisations which specialise on recording information about the members of a given population and some United Kingdom postcodes into various types based upon Census data and other information such as lifestyle surveys. Their purposes are to breakdown the population by categorising. These categories can be divided into factors such as age, population, ethnicity, education, occupation, lifestyle, etc.

For example: Education. Malone Road and Helens Bay are both areas which are usually lived by people with higher income or working in a higher class of jobs. These people want their children to go to a better school and they can afford to pay their children to go to better school like grammar school or even private school. These people want their children to be success and they will also even willing to pay for private tutors to tutor their children, not everyone can afford to pay for private tutors for their children.

Businesses like golf club and theatre can target their market by geographically and target people in these higher income areas because these people’s lifestyle are tending to be in a higher class and this would lead to an increase of their profits if they can attract and encourage these customers to come and use their business/ service. Another reason is because these people usually would not be interest in common sports like rugby and football.

People who live in rural areas like Monkstown and Rathcoole are tending to be in working class and are in a lower income class compare to Malone Road and Helens Bay. Although this maybe stereotyping, but overall people who live in these areas are tending not to have the sufficient income for them to hire private tutors for their children.
