1. GENERAL INFORMATION

A. Mission of the city of Muskegon Business Improvement District

The city of Muskegon Business Improvement District (MBID) was established in 2000 as a non-profit organization to assist low income property owners, small business owners, and residents to preserve and enhance the unique character of the city of Muskegon’s neighborhoods. MBID was created in response due to several years of economic and physical decline of the business district and surrounding neighborhoods. At present, MBID has members that includes over 500 small business owners and property owners. Several of the business members live in the surrounding neighborhoods and they hire locally. The MBID mission is to restore the business district and to preserve its unique and diverse character.

B. Overview of Services Requested and the Submission Process

MBID recently signed a lease for commercial space at 341 Main St, which is the organization’s visitor center and administrative offices. The Board of Directors elected to rent this location because it is in a central location amongst the business district and has ample space to fit the organization’s needs. MBID will occupy both the ground floor and basement at 341 Main Street which total roughly 2000 square feet, MBID will also have access to the grounds surrounding the facility.

MBID is searching for a licensed General Contractor who will remodel the space according to the architectural plans that will be approved by the City of Muskegon’s Department of Buildings before the remodeling project begins. The remodel will be for both the interior (ground and basement levels) and the exterior (surrounding grounds). The ground floor will be used for a Visitor Center that will accommodate 10 to 15 visitors at a time and two staff people. The basement will be for file storage and work space. The grounds will be used for neighborhood events.
