Overview of Riordan

Riordan Manufacturing is a global plastics manufacturer leading the industry. They produce beverage containers, plastic fan parts, and custom plastic parts. The company began in 1991 by Dr. Riordan, a chemistry professor. Today, Riordan employs 550 people in its 3 plants and its Corporate Headquarters. The main customers of Riordan are automotive manufactures, aircraft manufacturers, beverage makers, bottlers, appliance manufactures and the Department of Defense. According to "Riordan Maunfacturing" (2013), “We will strive to be a solution provider for our customers and not be a part of our customer’s challenges”. We will be proposing a new system to help support the mission statement to Riordan.

Issues Facing the Business Area

Businesses have various issues that can plague their existence and operational standards. Complying with the industry standards can be one of the most challenging issues facing the business. As a company, you want to be able to stand out and remain compliant to the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) standard. Government regulations can also be an issue for the business arena. Control Objectives for Information (COBIT) and Related Technology) and Enterprise risk management (ERM) are two accepted models of IT governance. One of the largest categorical issues facing the business area is vulnerability. With issues involving various levels of security, it is a business’s top priority to minimize vulnerabilities. Two of these vulnerabilities include physical access and virtual access. Ensuring that the business area maintains its awareness will ensure a successful system with commanding components.

Description of the New System and Components

The New System being proposed is an Inventory Control System. This type of system will automate the inventory process from start to finish. The tools required for this update will be both hardware and software. “Inventory...
