Professional Development Plan
To create team environment in a professional setting, leaders must understand personality traits as well as the strength and weakness of each team member. Once a leader has identified each team member strength and weakness, he/she can begin to delegate work assignment through various communication techniques such as: group kaizen sessions. There is a total of five members assigned to Team A with similar leadership styles, and approaches that will enhance the overall success during this learning sessions. The first week of class, each member completed a DISC assessment which identified individual personality traits. According to "DISC Assessment Profile", "The initial DISC model comes from Dr. William Marston, a professor at Columbia University in the 1920s, who was curious about the behavior of normal people. He did not create an instrument from his theory, but others did” (Disc Overview). As team leader, I did a self-examination pertaining to my own leadership styles. In which I applied to this week assignment to create a professional development plan identifying characteristics of the team members to help lead them to success.
My DISC assessment concluded that I am a Cautious (type C) behavior style. Type C behavioral styles are analytical, persistent, systematic people who enjoy problem solving. I am detail-oriented, and more concerned with content than style. Also I am task-oriented, and I enjoy perfecting processes while working toward attainable results. I try to always remain in control of my emotions. At times I have a tendency to feel uncomfortable around people who are extremely outgoing.
