Kmart is a discount department store operating in the united states, Puerto Rico, the U.S Virgin Islands, and Guam, with its headquarters operations in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, United States. The organization was founded in 1962 by S. S. Kresge and ranks at the third largest discount department store in the world, right behind Walmart and Target. kmart opened its first store on March 1, 1962, in Garden City, Michigan. The organization quickly thrived putting a number of competitors out of business during the 1970’s. kmarts mission statement is "We are committed to improving the lives of our customers by providing quality services, products and solutions that earn their trust and build lifetime relationships.

The strengths

It’s no secret that the majority of kmarts loyal customer base has switched over to its competitors, and recently filed for bankruptcy. With this being said, it's quite hard to believe that Kmart still has strengths over its competitors, but it most certainly does. A key strengths that Kmart has on its side is their private brand labels such as Sesame Street, Disney, Martha Stewart, Jaclyn Smith, and much more. Consumers love celebrities and know brand images, with kmart having a hold of these key brand names and images, I believe the organization can use this to their advantage against its key competitors

What do you think of when you see the two golden arches? a bitten apple on the back of a phone? Or the letter “H” on the back of an automobile? This is exactly why another key strength that Kmart has on its side is simply it’s brand Image and Long time customer trustworthiness name.
