Human Resources managers and staff members of their department are advocates for both the company and the people who work in the company. Consequently, a good Human Resource Manager is able to perform a constant balancing act to meet both needs successfully. This paper will be discussing the different roles of a human resource manager (Lingham, 2007).

Human Resource managers must meet the needs of his or her changing organization. An organization that is successful has a human resource manager that has become more adaptable to change and direction. Human Resource managers are sometimes considered to be a strategic partner, an employee sponsor or advocate and a change mentor. At the same time, still has responsibility for employee benefits administration, often payroll, and employee paperwork. Depending on the size of the organization, the Human Resource manager has responsibility for all of the functions that deal with recruiting, hiring, training, leadership, communication, performance management, salary, and benefits (Gómez-Mejía, Balkin, and Cardy, 2010).

The support human resources provides to the organization is implementing a performance management system is creating job descriptions. Job descriptions document the tasks, duties and responsibilities for each position or occupational group within the company. Recruiters use job descriptions to screen applicants and identify viable candidates. During the recruitment and selection process, recruiters and hiring managers ensure prospective employees have the skills and qualifications to perform successfully. When a new employee comes on board, a copy of the job description becomes a part of the employee's personnel file and during annual appraisals, managers refer to the job description when they conduct annual performance appraisals.
